The first thing a person does in Georgia is register their business and open a bank account. These are two separate agencies with two separate waiting times, and the order matters: without a tax number, banks won’t even have a conversation with you.

What is included

- We register small business status — a 1% rate on turnover
- We state our thresholds upfront: the simplified tax regime applies up to 500,000 GEL in annual turnover, and VAT liability kicks in at 100,000 GEL over twelve months

From 1 March 2026, earning income in Georgia without the right to work is a violation, and the fines here run into thousands of lari. Those who were working before the reform must act in time until 1 January 2027. The trap is not in the permit itself: after it is issued, the application o the residence permit remains ten days. Market sells these two documents separately, and almost no one mentions the ten days does not write — we track both deadlines.
