From 1 March 2026, earning income in Georgia without the right to work is a violation, and the fines here run into thousands of lari. Those who were working before the reform must act in time until 1 January 2027. The trap is not in the permit itself: after it is issued, the application o the residence permit remains ten days. Market sells these two documents separately, and almost no one mentions the ten days does not write — we track both deadlines.

The right to work and legal status — two consecutive documents, on time

Earning legally while living in Georgia
Running your own business under a simplified tax regime — the reason most people move to Georgia. We put it together in full: registration, tax status, right to work and a bank account. And we calculate honestly when the simplified tax regime will end: it applies up to a turnover of 500,000 GEL per year, while the VAT obligation kicks in much earlier — once turnover reaches 100,000 GEL in any twelve consecutive months.

The first thing a person does in Georgia is register their business and open a bank account. These are two separate agencies with two separate waiting times, and the order matters: without a tax number, banks won’t even have a conversation with you.

Two documents need renewing, not one: both the status and the right to work. The secondary market isn’t selling at all yet — the reform is new, and the first renewals will come t only in 2027. The application must be submitted no later than thirty days before expiry.

The child is starting school
School places are found in advance
Russian-language schools are available in both Tbilisi and Batumi, and we help you find one for free — schools pay agencies themselves. We charge for the work: gathering documents, to file and see through to a decision. A child’s status is the second stage: no separate service, a residence permit by family or study costs the same as the school portion, and in a package the price is simply combined.

How Georgia differs from Spain, Mexico, Turkey, and the UAE
- Not everyone needs status here — and we say so. Russians and Belarusians get a visa-free year, handled by the same authority cites as grounds for refusal. Half of those who come to us don’t need status — or the right to work, a bank account, or a driving licence. Talking a client out of an unnecessary service is cheaper, than to sell it and get a refund.
- What matters here is the timeline, not the document. Reform labour migration gave a transition period, and it is ending. Two documents go in strict sequence, with ten days between them, and this is the only place, where people lose money twice.
- The simplified tax regime ends more quietly than it starts. The 1% rate applies on turnover up to 500,000 GEL per year, while the VAT obligation kicks in much earlier — at 100,000 lari over any twelve-month period. We calculate your thresholds in advance, before they arrive.
- Licenses are exchanged without exams. Need a status or 185 days in the country over the past year. However, the old ID card is confiscated and are not refunded — it is better to know this in advance.
- Refusals here come without explanation. That is why the percentage approvals you won’t see on this page: they can’t honestly be called no one can, and an appeal is a separate matter and a separate conversation.
