Schools and children in Nha Trang
Children and schools in Nha Trang: what options are available to Russian-speaking families, how much it costs and how to apply.
Children’s education in Nha Trang: how the school system works for Russian-speaking families
Nha Trang is one of the few cities in Southeast Asia where the question of where to send your child to school can be answered without a lengthy search. Since 2022, a dense Russian-speaking diaspora has grown here, and with it an educational infrastructure: private kindergartens, schools with Russian-language instruction, and tutors. But the choice of format directly affects the family’s visa status, the strain on the budget, and the child’s future academic path. It is worth sorting this out before the move, not after.

Russian schools and kindergartens in Nha Trang
The Russian-language education sector in Nha Trang is the fastest-growing of all. Several private institutions cater specifically to families from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and other post-Soviet countries.
The best known are «Raduga» and «Nha Trang Kids» (and similar small centres). Their programmes typically combine the Russian preschool or school curriculum with basic English and Vietnamese. Classes are taught in Russian, which removes the language barrier and makes it easier to return to the Russian education system if needed.
Cost: 3–8 million VND per month depending on age and programme. Pre-school (ages 2–6) is generally at the lower end; school-age (7–14) with an extended curriculum tends toward the upper end.
Insider tip: most such schools operate as private educational centers without Vietnamese state accreditation. This means their diplomas or certificates are not automatically recognized in Russia or Vietnam. Parents handle this in two ways: enrolling in a Russian online school as an extern alongside the local institution, or opting for ’home education’ with official registration at a school in Russia.
International schools: English-language instruction and academic grounding
If the family plans a long-term stay or the child will continue their education within the Western academic system, English-language international schools offer a more reliable academic pathway.
Several English-language private schools operate in Nha Trang and its immediate surroundings. Tuition starts at 15 million VND per month, which in 2026 is roughly 600–700 USD. Curricula follow the IB (International Baccalaureate) or Cambridge IGCSE standard.
Advantages: a recognised degree, strong English, an international environment. Disadvantages: a child whose first language is Russian will face serious linguistic pressure for the first 6–12 months. Psychologically, it is harder than parents expect.

Vietnamese public schools: the real picture
Formally, Vietnamese state schools are free — which looks attractive on paper. In practice, access for expats is limited.
Requirements: official Temporary Residence Card (TRC) linked to a specific address within the school’s catchment zone. Most families living on a visa type E (electronic) or on a tourist stamp are formally not entitled to enrolment. Individual cases of enrolment through local intermediaries do exist, but this is a grey area.
Instruction is exclusively in Vietnamese. Children up to age 8–9 adapt relatively quickly; older children find it significantly harder.
Insider insight: several families in the community describe situations where a child genuinely learned Vietnamese within a year and integrated successfully — but these are typically children aged 5–7 who live in Nha Trang permanently and have contact with Vietnamese peers outside of school.
Comparing education formats in Nha Trang
| Format | Best suited for | Cost / month | Key detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Russian-language private school («Raduga», «Nha Trang Kids») | Families planning to return to Russia / CIS; children aged 2–14 | 3–8 million VND | No state accreditation; parallel external studies required |
| International English-language school | Families with long-term plans; children with a base in English | from 15 million VND | Language stress in the first year; strong academics |
| Vietnamese public school | Families with TRC; children under 8–9 | Free (additional fees — 0.5–1M VND) | Vietnamese only; difficult access for expats |
| Online school (Russian) + tutor in Nha Trang | Digital nomad families; frequent moves | 15,000–40,000 ₽/month + tutor | Full flexibility; socialisation is a separate matter |
Kindergarten in Nha Trang: preschool age
For children under 5–6, the choice in Nha Trang is broader and the requirements more flexible. Russian-speaking mini-kindergartens operate in the Phước Hải and Phước Tiến neighbourhoods — where most of the diaspora is concentrated. Groups are small (6–12 children) and carers are Russian-speaking.
The cost of kindergarten in Nha Trang is 3–5 million VND per month for a full day. Some formats offer half-day or a few days a week — at a lower price.
Vietnamese private kindergartens cost 1.5–3 million VND and offer a strong language immersion environment, though children need at least a basic level of Vietnamese to feel comfortable.
Common mistakes
-
Counting solely on a Russian school without a parallel distance-learning programme. A child spends a year or two at a school in Nha Trang, the family then returns — and discovers that the certificate is not recognised and the curriculum does not align. Russian online distance education solves the problem, but it must be set up from the very first school year.
-
Underestimating the psychological toll of moving straight into an international English-language school. A child aged 9–12 with no English foundation will spend the first months in a state of constant stress. It’s better to start with language courses alongside a Russian-language format.
-
Counting on free state Vietnamese schooling without a TRC. Most families living on a tourist stamp or e-visa have no legal right to enrolment. Workarounds exist but are unreliable.
-
Overlooking socialisation when choosing online schooling. Online school plus a private tutor is convenient, but the child misses out on a live peer environment. Nha Trang has plenty of clubs, sports sections, and Russian-speaking groups that can compensate — but you have to seek them out intentionally.
-
Overestimating the stability of private Russian-language institutions. The market is young: schools open, change hands, and sometimes close. Before enrolling, check how long a particular place has been operating and talk to parents in the community.
-
Not accounting for the summer break and the Vietnamese academic calendar. The Vietnamese school year begins in September and ends in May. Russian-language private schools more often follow the Russian calendar — check in advance to avoid falling into the gap.
What to choose and for whom
For families considering Nha Trang as a base for 1–3 years with a possible return to Russia — a Russian-language private school combined with a parallel Russian external-study programme. This preserves academic continuity and removes language-related stress.
For families with long-term plans and children who already have a foundation in English — an international school: more expensive, but it offers a recognised curriculum and opens doors to European and Asian universities.
For preschoolers — a Russian-language kindergarten in Nha Trang as a starting point, with Vietnamese or English language exposure added gradually. Nha Trang suits this age well: the climate is mild, child-friendly infrastructure exists, and the Russian-speaking community is dense.
