Study grants in Poland
Poland is one of the few EU countries where a foreign national can study at a state university free of charge: on Polish-language programmes, when admitted through the standard admissions process, no tuition fee is charged. A stipend is still needed to cover living expenses.
How education financing works here
The main government channel is the national academic exchange agency, which runs several programs for international applicants — from undergraduate to research internships. A separate track covers scholarships for holders of the Polish Card and people of Polish descent, with noticeably more flexible requirements.
Free does not mean no costs
Even on a tuition-free programme, costs for accommodation, insurance, and legal status remain. Universities award their own merit scholarships, and by the second year a significant share of international students receive them — ask at the faculty office, as they are rarely visible on the website.
What to prepare in advance
Polish language proficiency is confirmed by a certificate or a university exam; for English-language programmes, an international certificate is required. The school-leaving certificate must go through a recognition process, which is a separate procedure with its own timeline.

We do not publish exact application dates: they change every year, and this page is meant to last months. The card shows an intake window in plain language and a link to the official page, where the date is always current.
