Study grants in Canada
Canada bets on graduate studies: the most significant government scholarships here are doctoral, while funding at the undergraduate level comes mainly from universities and provinces themselves.
How education financing works here
Federal programs support doctoral students and researchers — the amounts are substantial and competition is national. Universities offer their own merit scholarships, some of which are awarded automatically upon admission without a separate application. Provinces maintain their own support streams, typically for those already enrolled.
Automatic scholarships — the most underrated option
At many Canadian universities, entrance scholarships are awarded based on grade point average without a separate application. This means the competition for funding begins not in a scholarship form, but in grades and the timing of your application: early submissions are considered for larger amounts.
What to prepare in advance
A language certificate, translated and certified educational documents, and references for postgraduate applicants. The student visa requires proof of funds; a scholarship counts only if confirmed by an official university document.
