Universities in Dubai for Russian speakers — straight talk

These are branch campuses of Western universities: University of Birmingham Dubai, Heriot-Watt, Middlesex, Wollongong; American University in Dubai; MBZUAI (AI).

Almost nothing is free:

• undergraduate AED 37,500–95,000/year (~$10,000–26,000)
• master’s degree AED 55,000–120,000

What is needed:

• school certificate with legalisation (attestation), IELTS 6.0–6.5
• apply directly to the university

Residence permit: student residential visa, sponsored by the university itself (issued after enrollment).

Exception: MBZUAI (master’s/PhD in AI) — tuition is FREE + stipend + accommodation.

Dubai: where to study cheaply or for free

The UAE is an expensive jurisdiction, but options do exist:

Free:

• MBZUAI (Mohamed bin Zayed University of AI): master’s and PhD programs in AI — free of charge + ~$2,000/month stipend + accommodation
• institutional merit scholarships (up to 50% for strong academic performance)

Less expensive than a full bachelor’s degree:

• start in community college / 2-year programs, then transfer
• online programs from UK branch campuses

Admissions: school certificate + IELTS, direct application; for top programmes — motivation letter and portfolio.

Dubai: documents, diploma, student visa

Documents:

• school certificate/diploma + legalisation (RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation + UAE consulate)
• IELTS/TOEFL
• international passport, photos, medical test upon arrival

Recognition: legalization and equivalence through the UAE Ministry of Education.

Visa:

• student residence visa, sponsored by the university
• Emirates ID and health insurance are mandatory
• work with a permit, usually part-time or internships
