Bookkeeping in London
How taxes and accounting work in London: when you need an accountant, how much ongoing support costs and how to optimise taxes legally.
When you need an accountant in London
In the UK, an accountant is essential for almost anyone who is self-employed: Self Assessment and Corporation Tax leave no room for mistakes. Russian speakers need one for: registering as a sole trader/Ltd, VAT, taxes, and the regime for new arrivals.
Price reference: bookkeeping for a sole trader — £60–150/mo, Ltd — £120–350/mo. Initial consultation with SVOY accountants — free.

What matters specifically for Russian speakers from the CIS
- Non-dom abolished — new FIG regime. From April 2025, the old non-dom regime is closed; new arrivals fall under the 4-year FIG regime: foreign income and capital gains are not taxed for the first 4 years. For wealthy individuals from CIS countries, this is the key instrument — it must be structured correctly and promptly.
- Income from clients in Russia. Structured via Ltd or sole trader; UK banks are strict about funds from Russia — transparency is required. USDT, third-country accounts, and international transfers.
- Worldwide income after 4 years under FIG is taxable — plan ahead with an accountant.
- CIS documents. Apostille and certified translation — can be arranged remotely.
Taxes and business structures
- sole trader — simpler; Ltd — with limited liability;
- Corporation Tax 25% (19% for small profits), VAT 20% (£90,000 threshold), Self Assessment for individuals;
- PAYE and National Insurance — for employees;
- Making Tax Digital — digital-format reporting.

How to choose an accountant
- hire a chartered accountant (ACCA/ICAEW) with experience in FIG and expat clients;
- decide between sole trader and Ltd before you start;
- a Russian-speaking specialist will fine-tune your regime and deductions.
