Packages in Uruguay
Uruguay is the only country in our lineup where status is granted not for money invested, but for running your own operation: you set up a sole proprietorship or company, pay contributions like a local, and receive permanent residency. There is no investment threshold at all — but there are monthly obligations, and you need to know about them before making a decision, not after registering.
Around $250 a month — ongoing, not a one-time charge. Social security and pension contributions are paid for as long as your business is active. Over a year, that’s another ~$3,000 on top of the setup costs — and it’s the main reason people abandon Uruguayan status after a year. We state this figure before signing any agreement and calculate the full first-year budget: it immediately shows whether this country is the right fit for you.

Uruguay permanent residence through your own business: the sole trader option
Status for activity, not for capital
Uruguay is the most stable jurisdiction in South America and the only one country in our portfolio where status is granted not for money invested, and for running your own business. You register as a sole trader, pay contributions like a local and receive permanent residency. There is no minimum investment threshold at all — but there are monthly fees, and you need to know about them before deciding.
- ⚠️ Around $250/month in insurance and pension contributions — ongoing an ongoing commitment for as long as the business operates — not a one-time payment. Factor it into your budget from month one: over a year, that’s another ~$3,000 beyond the filing cost.
- ⚠️ Income requirement — from $650 per person per month from your sole proprietorship or a company. This is not a formality: income is verified by financial statements, and the business will need to be genuinely active.
- We calculate the full estimate before the contract: registration, government fee, first-year contributions and accounting — in one table
- We register your sole proprietorship and handle the tax registration

Uruguay permanent residence through a company
When the business has outgrown a sole proprietorship
The same path to permanent residence, but through company registration, and not a sole trader. More expensive to set up and more complex in administration — but it works when the business has partners, employees, employees or turnover that no longer fits within a sole proprietorship.
- We calculate the full estimate before the contract and compare it with the sole trader option: the cost difference in the first year isn’t as big as it seems
- We register the company and handle its tax registration

The whole family to Uruguay
One status for everyone, contributions charged for the primary applicant
Uruguay permanent residence is granted to the whole family in a single application: case is filed by the primary applicant, while the spouse, children, and parents follow the same business. Contributions are paid by the person who runs the business — for family members they are not multiplied, and this is why Uruguay is more attractive than it first perspective.

How Uruguay differs from the sixteen countries where we already work
- Status is granted for activity, not for capital. No minimum investment, no required account balance, no property purchase. The basis is your own business: a sole proprietorship or a company that operates and pays contributions. This is the only case of its kind in our entire range.
- Monthly contributions are an obligation, not just a payment. Around $250 a month in insurance and pension contributions, for as long as the business is active. Someone who only counted the cost of the company package will be nearly a third off in their annual budget. We put this line first on every listing card.
- A fabricated case won’t work here. Uruguay doesn’t sell status in exchange for a paper registration: income is verified through financial records, and the requirement is $650 per person per month. If you’re not planning to run a business, another country may be a more honest fit — and we’ll tell you that before signing any agreement.
- Two paths, and the difference is not where it seems. A sole proprietorship costs less to set up, a company costs more — but the first-year gap is smaller than it looks on the surface, and a company offers noticeably more: partners, hiring, contracts with clients who don’t work with individuals. We compare both options during the consultation.
- Contributions are paid by the main applicant only. The family is processed as a single case, and the monthly cost does not multiply for each family member — the applicant pays. The government fee of $240 is charged per person, however. For a family of three, Uruguay works out noticeably cheaper than the price of one package suggests.
