Hong Kong is a gateway and settlement hub for trade with mainland China: suppliers are sourced in Shenzhen and Guangzhou (the border is close) and payments are handled through an HK company. You need a supplier, quality control, and logistics.
What matters specifically for Russian speakers from the CIS
- **Payments. An HK company is convenient for invoicing, but opening a bank account as a Russian national is difficult; in practice — a mainland account plus USDT and international transfers;
- Shenzhen and Guangzhou — 1–2 hours away: on-site procurement and inspection;
- shipping to CIS — cargo or container;
- factor commission and exchange rate costs (1–3%) into your cost price.
Supplier search and vetting
- platforms: Alibaba, 1688 (cheaper), Global Sources, Canton Fair;
- Hong Kong is a convenient base for visiting factories in Guangdong;
- pre-shipment inspection (QC) is mandatory; payment 30/70.
Logistics
- Kwai Tsing port — one of the world’s largest; cargo is often loaded from neighboring Yantian (Shenzhen);
- air freight via HKG — the world’s largest cargo airport;
- within the CIS — by sea, road, or rail.
Customs clearance
- Hong Kong is a free port with almost no duties (except on certain goods); customs clearance happens on the CIS side.
How not to lose money
- calculate the full landed cost including delivery and customs clearance;
- vet the factory and check for defects before shipment;
- the safer route is having your own person who will verify, consolidate, and ship the order on a turnkey basis.
