How it works in Montenegro
Temporary residence with a work permit is processed by the Ministry of Interior, and in Montenegro these two things are issued as a single document, not separately. As in Serbia, the first step is registering your place of residence — the ’white card’ — and it is done by the property owner.
What we need from you to get started
- International passport
- Grounds: employment, your own company, real estate, study, or family
- Residence registration from the property owner
- Criminal record check with apostille and translation
- Health insurance
Where things most often go wrong
- —Didn’t complete the white card registration in the first days after entry
- —The property was used as grounds without checking whether it was registered in the land registry in your name
- —The company was registered, but you never put yourself on the payroll — and the permit comes specifically through this
- —Translation done without a court-certified translator
The difference from Serbia is that here residence and work are a single document, and therefore a company without formalised employment does not grant status.
Fees, processing times, and institutional requirements change several times per year, which is why they are not listed here: we verify and quote them as of the date of submission.
