How it works in Spain
Residence permit matters are handled by Extranjería, while applications for remote work and for entrepreneurs — a dedicated unit, UGE-CE. Part ome grounds are filed from within the country, some through the consulate before departure, and depending on this depends on what can actually be started right now.
What we need from you to get started
- International passport and NIE, if already obtained
- Grounds: a contract, client agreements, bank statements, or proof of income
- Criminal record check with apostille and certified translation
- Understanding whether you are in Spain already or not yet
Where things most often go wrong
- —Translation done by a regular translator rather than a sworn translator (traductor jurado) — the document is not accepted and everything has to be redone from scratch
- —Apostille placed on a copy, not on the original
- —Missed appointment booking (cita previa): slots are taken within minutes, and without it the application simply cannot proceed
- —Started in-country what should have been filed through the consulate
Unlike Georgia and Armenia, where the status is processed in a single window within one visit, while in Spain it is a chain of several institutions, and the order steps matter more than the speed of each one.
