How it works in Mexico
The personal number CURP is issued upon obtaining resident status; the tax number RFC — in SAT, and these are different institutions with different records. Apostille for Mexican documents are issued by the state government, not a federal body, so the location of the document determines where to go.
What we need from you to get started
- Residence card or confirmation that the INM case is already in progress
- Address in Mexico and a recent utility bill at that address
- Documents that need to be legalized — in originals
Where things most often go wrong
- —Comprobante de domicilio that is out of date: a utility bill is only accepted if recent
- —The name in the passport and in Mexican documents is recorded differently — two people instead of one, and it surfaces later at the bank
- —A Russian document was taken to be apostilled in Mexico: the apostille is affixed in the country of issue, not the country of use
Fees, processing times, and institutional requirements change several times per year, which is why they are not listed here: we verify and quote them as of the date of submission.
