About the city

Life in Antalya — through the eyes of those already here

Tens of thousands of Russian speakers live in Antalya and the surrounding area — it is easy to get started here without knowing Turkish: Russian is heard in shops, clinics, and schools as a matter of course. The city is chosen for its climate (300+ sunny days), the sea, affordable living compared to Europe, and direct flights to many cities in Russia. One nuance of recent years: restrictions on tourist residence permits in certain districts mean it is worth thinking through your route to legal status in advance.

Where fellow expats settle — and where it’s best to avoid

Where to live

  • KonyaaltıWest of the city: the waterfront, mountains, new residential developments, and the highest concentration of Russian speakers
  • Lara / GüzelobaEastern seafront: prestigious developments, beaches, close to the airport — pricier, but prestigious
  • Muratpaşa (city centre)Old town and business center: authentic, cheaper than the seafront, full infrastructure
  • Kepez (new neighbourhoods)Budget new developments higher up in the city: further from the sea, but noticeably cheaper

Where it’s better not to live

  • Old neighborhoods of Kepez and industrial zonesAgeing housing stock, weak infrastructure, far from the sea — check the neighborhood before renting

Work and business

The main pillars are tourism, real estate, services, and remote work for Russian or European employers. Official employment requires a work permit (çalışma izni) through an employer. Many people open a şirket (company) — it serves as both a business and grounds for a residence permit. SVOY can handle the setup.

Healthcare — Antalya

Healthcare

Strong private healthcare: Memorial, Medical Park, Akdeniz — Russian-speaking doctors and coordinators are available. Appointments cost $30–60. With a residence permit you can arrange SGK or private insurance (required for a residence permit). Doctor contacts are in the SVOY chat.

Schools and children

State schools are free (Turkish); Russian-language private schools and nurseries are available in Konyaaltı and Lara ($200–500/month); international schools are more expensive. We can help prepare your documents with apostille and translation through SVOY.

FAQ

Questions about life in Antalya

Can you currently get a tourist residence permit in Antalya?

+

In many popular neighbourhoods (parts of Konyaaltı, Muratpaşa), registration of new tourist residence permits is closed. Working options: renting in an ’open’ district, a property-based residence permit (from $200K), a student permit, or a company-based permit. We’ll find the right basis for your situation through SVOY.

Is Antalya expensive to live in?

+

Less expensive than Istanbul and Europe: a 1+1 apartment starts at $450–500, groceries and cafés are affordable, and the sea is free. Lira inflation is noticeable, but with a foreign-currency income life is comfortable. Budget for one person: from $900–1,200/month including rent.

Is it realistic to get by without Turkish?

+

In Konyaaltı and Lara — yes: Russian-speaking schools, doctors, estate agents, and shops are all there. For documents, banks, and government offices a translator or community support will come in handy — trusted contacts can be found in the SVOY city chat.
